Good tank cleaning is a process, not a quick rinse. Knowing the steps helps you tell a thorough job from a shortcut — and lets you check that the work you paid for was actually done.

Step 1 — Drain the tank

The remaining water is pumped or drained out completely. Leftover water at the bottom is where most of the sludge and bacteria sit, so this step has to be done fully, not partially.

Step 2 — Remove sludge and debris

The settled sludge, silt and grit at the bottom is scooped and vacuumed out. This is the dirtiest layer and the source of most contamination.

Step 3 — Manual scrubbing

Walls, floor and corners are scrubbed by hand to break down biofilm and algae stuck to the surface. High-pressure jets alone miss the stubborn film — the manual step is what makes the surface genuinely clean.

Step 4 — High-pressure jet washing

The tank is vacuum-dried or wiped down and given a final rinse so no disinfectant residue or moisture remains before refilling.
